Complimentary Historic District Emblem Program

WHO?

Who is involved?
Beaver Area Heritage Foundation – A Non-Profit Historical Group funding this effort Beaver Historical and Architectural Review Board Volunteers – Beaver Administrative Board

WHY?

At BAHF’s 2021 Garrison Day booth, HARB/BAHF volunteers met with dozens of HD residents and generally found they often had little knowledge of but significant interest in the Historic Districts. Importantly they express interest in whether their property was in the HD and if so, particularly if theirs was formally recognized as a historic “contributing property”.

BAHF believes this is a worthwhile effort to educate residents about their own properties’ important role in making their National HD Designation possible … conceptually, the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. This promotional effort recognizes individual contributing properties in Beaver and Bridgewater by offering property owners a unifying tangible recognition emblem to proudly display at the entrance of their property.

WHAT?

What is the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation (BAHF)
BAHF’s Mission Statement is “Celebrate the people, places, culture, and events of Beaver Area’s rich history”. BAHF was instrumental in arranging and conducting the local historical survey which led to the 1996 designation of the town as a National Register Historic District.

What is a National Register Historic District?
Designated by the U.S. Department of Interior, it is a defined, mapped area, possessing a substantial concentration of structures united by past events or architecturally determined by 3rd-party professional individual analysis to be significantly contributing properties. Only about 1% of municipalities in the US have federally-designated districts.

What is a Contributing Property?
A building, structure or site within a National Register Historic District that contributes to its historic character, built during the district’s period of significance and substantially retains its architectural appearance from that time.
