Geneva College, Beaver Area Heritage Museum Create History Internship

BEAVER, PA, Feb. 24, 2012 — Geneva College and the Beaver Area Heritage Museum have signed a formal agreement creating an internship for history majors to receive credit hours for volunteering their work in the award-winning museum’s archival collections.

This internship provides hands-on experience to prepare students more fully for a career in the field of history, as an integral part of their undergraduate curriculum.  Students will have the opportunity to work with important local artifacts and primary documents as well as assist with the accessioning and cataloguing process, including some of the museum’s largest and most exciting collections of material.  Interns will also serve as greeters on weekends and have opportunities to publish the results of their work in cooperation with college faculty and museum officials.

To receive one credit hour, each student will need to provide 45 hours of work per semester at the museum. Jeffrey S. Cole, Professor of History at Geneva, and Mildred Sefton, Director of Collections at the museum, are overseeing the internship.
